After losing the ability to walk, it can be a bit discouraging to go through the long and strenuous process of rehabilitation. But this cocker spaniel from California never gave up for a second and continued to push through. And now, she is not only very mobile, but she is conquering mountain hikes, too.
The adorable cocker Violet didn’t have the best start in life. After she was supposedly hit in the back, her previous owner just left her at a high-kill shelter in Los Angeles, California. Fortunately, the rescue organization, Camp Cocker Rescue, came and pulled her out of the shelter.
When the staff of Camp Cocker saw her upon her arrival at their facility, they noticed that the pooch was barely standing on her own. They figured it was a spinal cord injury, and it was later revealed on Violet’s MRI results that this was indeed the case.
So to help the pup go back on her feet, the rescue org decided to enroll her in a program at the Los Angeles-based animal physical rehabilitation center, Two Hands Four Paws. That was where Violet met her physical therapist, Nami Sugiyama. Nami worked at the center as a canine therapist, and she was one of those assigned to handle Violet.
The first time they met, the pooch was still very timid and wanted nothing to do with humans. But once she got to know Nami after several sessions together, the cocker spaniel eventually warmed up to her. That was why when the rescue org went looking for a home for Violet, Nami immediately took the offer and became the pup’s forever mom.
It was not easy for Nami at first, but she quickly realized that Violet and her share the same thing: a love for the outdoors. So the moment the pup got used to her new wheelchair, Nami frequently took her out on short hikes in her area, much to Violet’s delight.
The pooch still had to go a long way before fully recovering, but she was sure her fur mom would accompany her every step of the way. Watch her heartwarming story here.
